The free seminar is supported by leading development partnership Trilogy Real Estate and Peterson Group, and will be held on Tuesday 19 September 2017 at the Great Northern in Manchester City Centre.
The morning event will run from 8:30am – 12pm and is aimed at those involved in planning, regeneration as well as landscape architects, developers and built environment professionals.
The session will explore the role Green Infrastructure (GI) plays in creating sustainable and economically viable urban areas and will see a range of speakers make the case for why and how GI needs to be an integral component of new build.
The event is being supported by leading development partnership Trilogy Real Estate and Peterson Group, which is at the forefront of transforming the Great Northern Warehouse, with ambitious plans for the public realm that will include tree-planting in a new green space on Great Northern Square.
Robert Wolstenholme, founder of Trilogy Real Estate, who is also speaking at the event, said: “As we work to promote Manchester as a world class city-region, it is vital that we recognise the quality of our green infrastructure and continue to develop it to maximise the benefit it delivers for all Mancunians. The event is headed up by international expert Matt Wells who will give an overview of his experiences as London Tree Officer and his involvement in New York City’s successful MillionTreesNYC campaign.
Councillor Alex Ganotis, Leader of Stockport Council and appointed Greater Manchester Lead for the Green City region, will outline the GM Mayor’s Vision for a greener, sustainable Greater Manchester.
He commented: “I’m proud to be driving forward Greater Manchester’s ambition to be a world class green city region.
“The environment is crucial to the wellbeing of the people of Greater Manchester and it is essential that trees and green spaces are at the heart of the development process if we are to create the places that people want to live, work and invest in.”
He added: “I am pleased to be part of City of Trees’ event and will be announcing further plans on the upcoming Green Summit, delivering on Andy Burnham’s commitment”.
Other speakers include Tom Armour, director at Arup, a global firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists; and Nicola Hancock MALA CMLI, Associate Director at The Environment Partnership (TEP) Limited who will be speaking about GI and the masterplanning process.
This is the second annual seminar organised by City of Trees, a movement which aims to plant 3 million trees, one for every man, woman and child across Greater Manchester within a generation.

The event is also being supported by The Landscape Institute North West and Manchester-based I Want Plants / I Want Trees, the UK’s leading independent supplier of horticultural displays, who will be dressing the venue.
