Hillier is once again joining forces with The Silver Line charity, raising funds through the sale of two striking Lavender varieties. Lavandula angustifolia ‘Silver Line’, a popular line introduced at Chelsea Flower Show 2016, is once again available along with a delightful new variety, Lavandula angustifolia ‘Silver Line Blue’. For every plant sold, Hillier will donate £1 to the charity.
The Silver Line charity, set up by Dame Esther Rantzen, operates the only national, free confidential helpline for lonely isolated older people that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Last year, the charity passed its one millionth caller – a figure that, sadly, shows the incredible need for this service.
Lavandula ‘Silver Line’ is a wonderful variety of English Lavender that produces masses of pure white, fragrant, flowers throughout the summer and into autumn. It has soft, grey-green leaves, making it a perfect foil to other shrubs and perennials in a mixed border or patio pot.
Lavandula ‘Silver Line Blue’, new to Hillier in 2017, is a similarly fragrant variety of English lavender to L. ‘Silver Line’, but with striking soft-blue flowers. Both varieties are well loved by bees and butterflies.
